Mentre Washington scatena l'ennesima manovra destabilizzante per indebolire il
governo venezuelano e giustificare un intervento internazionale contro
Caracas, l'UE non esita a utilizzare la manovalanza fascista per mettere le
mani sull'Ucraina. L'UE si rappresenta come baluardo della libertà e del
progresso, ma nel suo "cortile di casa" l'imperialismo europeo si
comporta esattamente come quello a stelle e strisce, utilizzando forze
paramilitari di estrema destra e xenofobe per imporre i propri interessi
egemonici attraverso un vero e proprio golpe.
Così come negli anni '90 in Jugoslavia, l'establishment dell'UE rischia di
provocare un'ennesima guerra civile su basi etniche e religiose, spaccando
l'Ucraina e portando il conflitto con Mosca a livelli di non ritorno. Intanto
la troika - UE, BCE e FMI - si appresta a stringere il cappio attorno
all'Ucraina e ad imporre privatizzazioni e sacrifici in cambio della
concessione di "aiuti" che il popolo ucraino pagherà molto cari.

L’EUROPA PRECIPITA VERSO IL FASCISMO
In Ucraina è caccia all’uomo. Dall’aggressione avvenuta alla Verhovnaja Rada
contro il gruppo comunista, ad opera dei parlamentari fascisti si è passati
al tentativo di eliminazione fisica dei cittadini che ancora credono nella
sovranità del loro Paese.
I nazi-fascisti, che fanno da sponda alla formazione di un nuovo governo
apertamente reazionario, continuano a incendiare, saccheggiare e colpire
le sedi, gli uomini e le donne che non si sottomettono alle loro aspettative.
Tali azioni sono accompagnate da una ondata estremamente pericolosa di isteria
anticomunista e antisemita, dalla distruzione ovunque dei monumenti a
Lenin e della Grande Guerra Patriottica, dagli attacchi dei banditi alle sedi
del partito comunista a Kiev e in altre città, dall’ incendio della casa
del segretario Petro Simonenko, dal terrore morale e fisico contro i comunisti,
dalle richieste di vietare le attività del Partito Comunista dell'Ucraina
e, persino, all’incendio di una sinagoga a di Kiev.
Nel contempo l'Occidente, interferendo apertamente e sfacciatamente negli
affari interni di quel paese, sostiene le azioni delle forze di
destra (dal momento che esse sono indirizzate a un serio cambiamento della
situazione geopolitica in Europa e nel mondo, alla distruzione
dei secolari legami economici, culturali e spirituali dei popoli russi e
ucraini, degli altri popoli fratelli della ex Unione Sovietica) e puntano a
fare dell'Ucraina un protettorato di USA, UE, NATO, del Fondo Monetario
Internazionale e delle varie corporazioni multinazionali.
Negli stadi italiani si vedono simboli e segni di chiara matrice fascista e
organizzazioni di estrema destra si danno appuntamenti pubblici a sostegno
della repressione.
Il capitalismo occidentale foraggia i fascisti per realizzare il sogno di
banche e banchieri sostenuti con il sangue del popolo.
Siamo indignati e non possiamo stare inermi davanti allo spudorato sostegno che
l'Unione Europea neo-imperialista, la Nato, i nazi-fascisti di Forza
Nuova, di Alba Dorata e del British National Party stanno dando alla
sovversione .
Un compito gravoso ci aspetta. Chi può e vuole svolgere una funzione positiva,
lo faccia adesso. Non c’è tempo da perdere, bisogna agire subito
assumendoci ognuno le proprie responsabilità.
L’appello è ai democratici, agli antifascisti, ai giovani partigiani per una
grande manifestazione antifascista a Messina.
E nel contempo si invitano i membri del Parlamento italiano ed europeo che
intendono restare fedeli alla loro coscienza antifascista di fare
tutto quello che è in loro potere per indurre le istituzioni nazionali e
internazionali ad una pressione politico-diplomatica volta ad arrestare la
corsa verso il precipizio.

Clinton-Pinchuk Connection

Al tavolo di Kiev in cui è stato negoziato l'accordo formale tra governo,
opposizione, Ue e Russia non sedeva ufficialmente alcun rappresentante della
potente oligarchia interna che, legata più a Washington e alla Nato che a
Bruxelles e alla Ue, spinge l'Ucraina verso l'Occidente. Emblematico il caso di
Victor Pinchuk, 54nne magnate dell'acciaio, classificato
dalla rivista Forbes tra gli uomini più ricchi del mondo.
La fortuna di Pinchuk inizia quando nel 2002 sposa Olena, figlia di Leonid
Kuchma, secondo presidente dell'Ucraina (1994-2005). Nel 2004 l'illustre
suocero privatizza il maggiore complesso siderurgico ucraino, quello di
Kryvorizhstal, vendendolo alla società Interpipe, di cui il genero è
comproprietario, per 800 milioni di dollari, circa un sesto del valore reale.
La Interpipe monopolizza in tal modo la fabbricazione di tubazioni in
acciaio. Nel 2007 Pinchuk costituisce l'EastOne Group, società di consulenza
per investimenti internazionali, che fornisce alle multinazionali tutti
gli strumenti per penetrare nelle economie dell'Est. Diviene allo stesso tempo
proprietario di quattro canali televisivi e di un popolare tabloid (Fatti
e commenti) con una circolazione di oltre un milione di copie. Non
trascura però le opere di bene: crea la Victor Pinchuk Foundation, considerata
la maggiore «fondazione filantropica» ucraina.
È attraverso questa fondazione che Pinchuk si collega ai Clinton, sostenendo la
Clinton Global Initiative stabilita da Bill e Hillary nel 2005, la cui missione
è «riunire i leader globali per creare soluzioni innovative alle sfide
mondiali più pressanti». Dietro questo altisonante slogan c'è lo scopo reale:
creare una rete internazionale di potenti appoggi a Hillary Clinton, la
già first lady che, dopo essere stata senatrice di New York nel 2001-2009
e segretaria di stato nel 2009-2013, tenta di nuovo la scalata alla presidenza.
La fruttuosa collaborazione inizia nel 2007 quando Bill Clinton ringrazia
«Victor e Olena Pinchuk per la loro vigorosa attività sociale e l'appoggio
fornito al nostro programma internazionale». Appoggio che
Pinchuk concretizza con un primo contributo di 5 milioni di dollari, cui
ne seguono altri, alla Clinton Global Initiative. Ciò apre a Pinchuk le porte
di Washington: assume per 40mila dollari al mese il lobbista Schoen, che
gli organizza una serie di contatti con influenti personaggi, compresa una
dozzina di incontri in un anno, tra il 2011 e il 2012, con alti funzionari del Dipartimento
di stato. Ciò favorisce anche gli affari, permettendo a Pinchuk di aumentare le
esportazioni negli Stati uniti, anche se ora i metallurgici della Pennsylvania
e dell'Ohio lo accusano di vendere sottocosto tubi di acciaio negli Usa.
Per rafforzare ulteriormente i legami con gli Stati uniti e l'Occidente,
Pinchuk vara la Yalta European Strategy (Yes), «la più grande istituzione
sociale di diplomazia pubblica nell'Europa orientale», il cui scopo
ufficiale è «aiutare l'Ucraina a svilupparsi in un paese moderno, democratico
ed economicamente potente». Grazie alla grossa disponbilità finanziaria di
Pinchuk (che solo per festeggiare il suo 50° compleanno in una località
sciistica francese ha speso oltre 6 milioni di dollari), la Yes è in grado di
tessere una vasta rete di contatti internazionali, che diventa visibile
nel meeting annuale organizzato a Yalta. Vi partecipano «oltre 200 politici,
diplomatici, statisti, giornalisti, analisti e dirigenti del mondo degli affari
provenienti da oltre 20 paesi». Tra questi emergono i nomi di Hillary e
Bill Clinton, Condoleezza Rice, Tony Blair, George Soros, Jose Manuel Barroso,
Mario Monti (che ha partecipato al meeting dello scorso settembre), ai
quali si affiancano personaggi meno noti, ma non per questo meno influenti, tra
cui dirigenti del Fondo monetario internazionale. Come ha
spiegato Condoleezza Rice al meeting Yes 2012, «le trasformazioni
democratiche richiedono tempo e pazienza, richiedono appoggio dall'esterno così
come dall'interno». Un'ottima sintesi della strategia che l'Occidente
adotta sotto il manto dell'«appoggio dall'esterno» per favorire le
«trasformazioni democratiche». Una strategia ormai consolidata, dalla
Iugoslavia alla Libia, dalla Siria all'Ucraina: infilare cunei nelle crepe
che ogni stato ha, per scardinarne le basi sostenendo o fomentando ribellioni
antigovernative (tipo quelle a Kiev, troppo puntuali e organizzate per
essere considerate semplicemente spontanee), mentre si scatena una martellante
campagna mediatica contro il governo che si vuole abbattere. Per ciò che
riguarda l'Ucraina, l'obiettivo è di far crollare lo stato o spaccarlo in
due: una parte che entrerebbe nella Nato e nella Ue, un'altra che resterebbe
maggiormente collegata alla Russia. In tale quadro si inserisce la Yalta
European Strategy dell'oligarca, amico dei Clinton.

After signing a void agreement on “crisis settlement” on Friday, the situation in Ukraine has rapidly got out of control of its signatories and “witnesses”. No provisions of this document were fulfilled. The legitimate authorities fled (or tried to flee) the country, the governmental buildings in Kiev are taken by the revolutionary mob. The radicals are dictating the new rules to façade opposition “leaders” who desperately try to bridle theMaidan.
What happened to Ukraine on February 21, 2014 is essentially a criminal coup committed by the radical armed anarchists and Ukrainian Nazis who have been enjoying a comprehensive financial, military, diplomatic and even religious support and instigation from the Western power groups for the last two decades. Many of Ukraine’s cities are now falling into the chaos of lootings, unprovoked violence, lynch law and political repressions.
The first signs of upcoming chaos were clearly seen as the Ukrainian authorities wavered at the three-month siege of the centre of Kiev by the radical guerrilla elements from Galicia and local criminal gangs. They watched silently when furious fanatics were burning unarmed riot police Berkut officers alive, lynching them and pulling out their eyes. They did nothing to stop frantic “freedom fighters” from storming regional administrations, humiliating the officials and looting police and military arsenals in the West Ukraine. They were paralyzed when unidentified snipers were cool-bloodily killing militia personnel, protesters and casual passer-bys from the roofs of Kiev’s buildings. They even declared amnesty (twice!) to those guilty of the brutal crimes against policemen and public order. Thus Yanukovych’s regime itself paved the way for a sinister ghost of the war-torn Libya to come to Ukraine.
Is the guerrilla side a self-organized and self-indoctrinated popular movement tired of a corrupt and inefficient state? That is hardly the case.
Since the collapse of the Soviet Union the international power groups have invested billions of the Federal Reserve notes (aka US$) into Ukrainian “pro-democratic” NGOs and politicians. While preaching “Ukrainian commitment to the European choice and democratic values” in the meantime they clearly saw that there is no short-term historical perspective for making Ukraine a state hostile to Russia, which is evidently the final goal of the globalist Eastern policy. The stakes were placed on the ultranationalist elements in the Western Ukraine and in the Uniate Church, a minority religious Greek-Catholic community of the Eastern rite, created by the Holy See in XVI century in a desperate attempt to weaken close ties of Rzeczpospolita’s Orthodox with Moscow. Since the early 1990s the Uniates enjoyed silent support of the newly-independent central authorities in Kiev. Theit tactic was to aggressively occupy Orthodox cathedrals on the canonic territory of the Moscow Patriarchate. The last thing the Uniate clergy used to preach in the occupied churches for all these years was the Christian call for repentance and peace. Instead they propagated a new crusade against the Orthodox and directly instigated and justified race-motivated prosecutions and even killings, acting exactly like radical jihadist preachers of the militant pseudo-Islamic sects. Suffice to watch a “Sunday sermon” by Mykhailo Arsenych, the clergyman from a local Uniate church in Ivano-Frankovsk region, Ukraine saying: “Today we are really ready for a revolution.The only effective methods of combat are assassination and terror! We want to be sure that no Chinese, Negro, Jew or Muscovite will try to come and grab our land tomorrow!”

The products of such indoctrination were not long in coming. A number of NATO-sponsored training centers for the Ukrainian ultranationalist militants were opened on the territory of the Baltic states immediately after they joined NATO in 2004. The detailed photo report on a Ukrainian group taking a course of subversive activities at a NATO training center in Estonia in 2006 is available here (texts in Russian).
Abundant financial and human resources were directed to bolster the paramilitary units of the radical UNA-UNSO, Svoboda and other ultranationalist organizations in the Ukraine. Since 1990s these thugs were participating in the Chechen and Balkan wars on the side of radical Wahhabi (!) militants and committing war crimes against captured Russian and Serbian soldiers and civilian population. One of the notorious guerilla fighters of the Ukrainian origin in Chechnya, Olexander Muzychko (aka criminal leader Sasha Biliy) today is heading a brigade of “Pravyi Sector”, the radical militant driving force of the ongoing coup d’état in Kiev. According to his “official” biography (linkin Russian), in 1994 he was awarded by the then top commander of terroristIchkeria enclave Dzhohar Dudayev with the order “Hero of Nation” for “outstanding military successes against Russian troops”. His “military skills” were quite specific: he used to lure the Russian units operating in remote Chechen locations to guerilla ambushes. Then he personally participated in tortures and beheadings of the captured Russian soldiers. After returning to the Ukraine in 1995, he led a criminal gang in Rovno. Eventually he was prosecuted and sentences for 8 years term for kidnapping for ransom and attempted assassination of a Ukrainian businessman. He entered politics after release from prison in late 2000s.
After the end of Chechen and Balkan wars the British and American private military contractors were routinely recruiting Ukrainian mercenaries for operations in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria and elsewhere.The Britam Defense scandal revealed the way and scale of how the Ukrainian personnel of the private military contractors were used in provocative clandestine actions to meet Western political goals in the Middle East. Many of them were sent to Kiev to make the job they are paid for – to target both policemen and protesters on “Euromaidan” from the roofs of surrounding buildings.
The real leaders of the protest have already clearly expressed their radical views to the European press (read e.g. the interview with the Pravyi Sector leader Dmitro Yarosh and several recent Guardian’s publications here and here).
That is the sort of people the half-hearted European politicians are about to deal with in the Ukraine. These fanatics are the real authority in today’s Kiev seized by the marauding mobs. They have torn the Friday’s agreement signed by four Ukrainian “leaders” and three European officials before the ink was dry on this paper. Their treatment of Yulia Timoshenko after her emotional speech on the Maidan Saturday night has clearly shown that her nomination de facto head of failing Ukrainian state would be their decision. Latest Western advice to financially support Ukraine with the IMF and the EU funds suggest that they have chosen to buy the loyalty of the ultranationalists for the transition period. Therefore, the ongoing Western policy of appeasement towards the radical insurgents in Kiev very much resembles the Anglo-American connivance in Hitler’s accession to power in Germany in 1933 and the rise of the Third Reich. But if the Western elitist groups suppose that the Neo-Nazi project that they have carefully cherished and supported in Ukraine for decades, would be controlled by political means and set against Russia, they are deadly wrong.After facing furious resistance and blowback at the East and South of the Ukraine, the radical Nazi ideological avalanche encouraged by the illusion of success in Kiev would inevitably enter the degrading European political landscape where the neo-Nazi and hooligan outbreaks are already a notable destabilizing factor. Their established links with the Islamist underground in Europe add another sinister dimension to the murky European future.
Is it the price the Europeans are ready to pay for bringing its eastern neighbors into the “family of civilized nations”?

The geopolitical dimensions of the coup in Ukraine

“When the Soviet Union was collapsing in late 1991, Dick wanted to see the dismantlement not only of the Soviet Union and the Russian empire but of Russia itself, so it could never again be a threat to the rest of the world,” wrote former US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates in his recently published memoirs. Gates was referring to the then-Secretary of Defense, and later US Vice President, Dick Cheney.
The statement sheds light on the geopolitical dimensions of the recent putsch in Ukraine. What is at stake is not so much domestic issues—and not at all the fight against corruption and democracy—but rather an international struggle for power and influence that stretches back a quarter of a century.
The Financial Times places the recent events in Ukraine in the same light. In an editorial on February 23, it wrote: “For a quarter of a century this huge territory perched precariously between the EU and Russia has been the object of a geopolitical contest between the Kremlin and the west.” In 2008, a clumsy attempt by President George W. Bush failed to draw the former Soviet republics of Ukraine and Georgia into NATO, “But the Maidan revolution now offers a second chance for all parties to reconsider the status of Ukraine on the fault line of Europe.”
The dissolution of the Soviet Union in December 1991 was an unexpected gift to the imperialist powers. The October Revolution in 1917 had removed a considerable part of the world’s surface from the sphere of capitalist exploitation. This was regarded as a threat by the international bourgeoisie, even long after the Stalinist bureaucracy betrayed the goal of world socialist revolution and murdered an entire generation of Marxist revolutionaries. In addition, the economic and military strength of the Soviet Union presented an obstacle to US world hegemony.
The dissolution of the Soviet Union and the introduction of the capitalist market created conditions for the social wealth created by generations of workers to be plundered by a handful of oligarchs and international finance. The social gains made in the field of education, health care, culture and infrastructure were smashed and left to decline.
This was not enough, however, for the US and the major European powers. They were intent on ensuring that Russia could never again threaten their global hegemony, as is made clear in the above cited statement of Dick Cheney.
By 2009 the US-dominated NATO military alliance had absorbed into its ranks almost all of the East European countries that had once belonged to the sphere of influence of the Soviet Union. But attempts to incorporate former Soviet republics into NATO failed—with the exception of the three Baltic states Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania—due to resistance from Moscow. Ukraine, with its 46 million inhabitants and its strategic location situated between Russia, Europe, the Black Sea and the Caucasus, invariably was at the centre of these attempts.
As far back as 1997, former US National Security Advisor Zbigniew Brzezinski wrote that without Ukraine, any attempt by Moscow to rebuild its influence on the territory of the former Soviet Union was doomed to fail. The core thesis of his book The Grand Chessboard is that America’s capacity to exercise global primacy depends on whether America can prevent the emergence of a dominant and antagonistic power on the Eurasian landmass. In 2004 the US and the European powers supported and financed the “Orange Revolution” in Ukraine that brought a pro-western government to power. The regime rapidly broke apart, however, due to internal strife. The attempt in 2008 to draw Georgia into NATO by provoking a military confrontation with Russia also failed.
Now the US and its European allies are intent to use the putsch in Ukraine to once again destabilize other former Soviet republics as well and draw them into their own sphere of influence. In so doing they risk an open armed conflict with Russia.
Under the headline “After Ukraine, the West Makes Its Move for the Russian Periphery,” the Stratfor think tank, which has close links to the US secret services, writes: “The West wants to parlay the success of supporting Ukraine’s anti-government protesters into a broader, region-wide campaign.”
“A Georgian delegation is currently visiting Washington, and the country’s prime minister, Irakli Garibashvili, is scheduled to meet with U.S. President Barack Obama, Vice President Joe Biden and Secretary of State John Kerry this week,” Stratfor reports. Moldovan Prime Minister Iurie Leanca is also scheduled to visit the White House for a meeting with US Vice President Joe Biden on March 3. “High on the agenda of both visits are the countries’ prospects for Western integration—in other words, how to bring them closer to the United States and the European Union and further from Russia.”
Lilia Shetsova from the US foundation Carnegie Endowment for International Peace (sic) in Moscow, also argues that the coup in Ukraine be extended to other countries and Russia itself. “Ukraine has become the weakest link in the post-Soviet chain,” she writes in a comment for the Süddeutsche Zeitung. “We should keep in mind that similar upheavals in other countries are possible.”
Shetsova stresses a feature of the Ukrainian revolution that she wants to retain at all costs: the mobilization of militant fascist forces. “Yanukovych’s downfall is essentially due to the ‘radical elements’ on the Maidan, including among others, the Right Sector, which have become a serious political force.” She continues: “Ukraine’s future will depend on whether the Ukrainians can maintain the Maidan.”
The “radical elements” which Shetsova wants to retain at all costs are armed fascist militias, which base themselves on the vilest traditions of Ukrainian history: the pogroms and mass murder of Jews and Communists carried out during the Second World War. The future role of these fascist militias will be to terrorize and intimidate the working class.
It took just a few hours for the reactionary social content of the upheaval in Ukraine to become clear. The “European values ” allegedly brought to the country by overthrow of the old regime consist of massive attacks on the already impoverished working class. As a condition for loans the country urgently needs to prevent impending bankruptcy, the IMF is demanding the floating of the exchange rate of the hryvna, a brutal austerity program and a six-fold increase in the price of household gas prices.
The floating of the country’s currency will lead to raging inflation, a corresponding increase in the cost of living, and the destruction of any remaining savings by ordinary Ukrainians. The austerity program will be primarily directed against pensions and social spending and the increase in gas prices will mean that many families cannot heat their homes.
Ukraine is to be reduced to a country where well-trained workers and professionals earn wages far below those currently paid in China. This is of especial interest for Germany, Ukraine’s second largest trading partner (after Russia) and, with a volume of $7.4 billion, the second largest investor in the country.
While for the United States the isolation of Russia stands in the foreground, Germany is interested in the economic benefits of Ukraine, which it has already militarily occupied twice, in 1918 and 1941. It wants to exploit the country as a cheap labor platform and use it to drive down wages in Eastern Europe and Germany even further.
According to statistics compiled by the German Economic Institute, labor costs in Ukraine are at the low end of the international scale. At €2.50 per hour worked, average labor costs (gross wages plus other costs) for workers and clerical employees are already well below those of China (€3.17), Poland (€6.46) and Spain (€21.88). In Germany, an hour of labor costs €35.66, i.e 14 times as much.
The Ukrainian Statistical Office estimates the average monthly wage at 3,073 hryvna (€220). Academics are also very poorly paid.
Former President Yanukovych himself was a representative of Ukrainian oligarchs. He only turned down the Association Agreement with the EU because he feared he would not politically survive the social consequences. Now his downfall serves as a pretext to introduce a level of poverty and exploitation totally incompatible with democratic norms and will lead to new social uprisings. It is precisely in order to suppress future social unrest that the fascist militias are to be retained.

I recenti e drammatici sviluppi in Ucraina non rappresentano la "vittoria
della democrazia" da parte di presunti "rivoluzionari", come
viene descritta dai mass media di Stati uniti ed Unione europea, ma sono uno
sviluppo pericoloso, soprattutto per lo stesso popolo ucraino.
Le forze politiche reazionarie, eredi ideologiche dei nazisti, sono salite
politicamente in "superficie" con l'assistenza dell'Ue e degli Usa.
Queste sono le forze che oltre a distruggere le sedi dei loro avversari, hanno
in programma le persecuzioni politiche e la messa al bando di partiti,
soprattutto nei confronti dei comunisti, e una legislazione razzista a scapito
della popolazione di lingua russa, come quella in vigore da 20 anni nei paesi
del Baltico "europeo", con il palese sostegno politico dell'Ue.
I Partiti comunisti e operai firmatari di questa dichiarazione congiunta:
Esprimono la loro solidarietà e sostegno ai comunisti di Ucraina, innanzitutto
a quelli che in molti casi sono andati per le strade a difendere i monumenti di
Lenin e antifascisti, divenuti "bersagli" della "pulizia"
ideologica della storia portata avanti dai gruppi nazionalisti-fascisti armati.
Denunciano gli Usa e l'Ue per il loro coinvolgimento palese negli affari
interni dell'Ucraina, per il sostegno diretto che hanno fornito e stanno
fornendo ai gruppi fascisti armati, sostenendo il revanscismo storico contro
l'esito della II Guerra mondiale, convertendo l'anti-comunismo in politica
ufficiale, come abbellendo i gruppi fascisti, la loro ideologia e attività
criminale, promuovendo la divisione del popolo dell'Ucraina con persecuzioni
pianificate nei confronti della parte russofona.
Sottolineano la pericolosità delle posizioni delle forze opportuniste, che
seminano illusioni sulla possibilità che possa esistere un'altra e
"migliore Ue", " un diverso e migliore accordo d'associazione
dell'Ue con l'Ucraina". L'Ue, come ogni unione capitalista inter-statale,
è un'alleanza predatoria dal carattere profondamente reazionario, non può
diventare filo-popolare, ma essa agisce e continuerà ad agire contro i diritti
dei lavoratori e dei popoli.
Notiamo che gli sviluppi in Ucraina sono connessi all'intervento dell'Ue e
degli Usa, sono il risultato della forte competizione tra queste potenze e la
Russia per il controllo dei mercati, delle materie prime e delle reti di
trasporto del paese. Tuttavia il popolo ucraino, come tutti gli altri popoli
d'Europa, non ha interessi a schierarsi con l'uno o l'altro imperialista, con
l'una o l'altra alleanza predatoria.
Gli interessi della classe operaia e degli strati popolari dell'Ucraina
consistono nell'impedire di essere "intrappolati" in logiche di
divisione nazionalista, sulla base di particolarismi etnici, linguistici e
religiosi, e nel dare la priorità ai loro comuni interessi di classe, al
tracciare il loro percorso di lotta di classe, per i loro diritti e per il
socialismo. Il socialismo continua ad essere più opportuno e necessario che
mai. Questa è la prospettiva da cui affrontare qualunque unione capitalista
inter-statale, per spianare la strada ad un'economia e una società che non
operino sulla base del profitto, ma sulle necessità dei lavoratori.

NATO expansion a new ‘Drang Nach Osten’ Doctrine – FM Živadin Jovanović
After NATO military aggression against the former Federal Republic of Yugoslavia ended in 1999 and after the establishment of the US/NATO Camp Bondsteel military base, American military bases began sprouting up all over Eastern Europe like mushrooms after a drenching rain.
On the 15 year anniversary of the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia in an interview with the Voice of Russia Živadin Jovanović, the former and last Foreign Minister of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia and the Chairman of the Belgrade Forum for a World of Equals stated that all of these bases are directed against Russia and Eurasia.
All of the NATO infrastructure and military elements have nothing to do with democracy or with some struggle against organized international crime. All of the bases, warships, aircraft, nuclear missiles and anti-ballistic missile systems in Germany, Poland, Romania, Spain and elsewhere are all part of a new “Drang Nach Osten Doctrine” (the German Imperial and nazi [sic] “Drive to the East”). Mr. Jovanović believes this push to the East warrants very serious attention and is a very dangerous development.
This is John Robles, I’m speaking with Živadin Jovanović. He is the former Foreign Minister of Yugoslavia and the Chairman of the Belgrade Forum for a World of Equals. This is part 2 of a longer interview. You can find the rest of this interview on our website at voiceofrussia.com.
Jovanović: In June, 1999, after NATO aggression was ended, then I can recall that soon after that there was a reconstruction and construction of four new American military bases in Bulgaria, and after that four new American bases in Romania. And how many they have in Czech or Slovak Republic, in Poland, in Baltic Republics and so on, it is not really so important, but what is important that after military aggression on Yugoslavia in 1999 and after establishment of the Bondsteel military base, American military bases in eastern part of the continent were mushrooming like after rain.
And now I would like to ask question for your listeners: how to explain the fact that in Europe today there are much more foreign military bases than at the time of the peak of Cold War era? Why they are needed? Is democracy in danger? Who is endangering democracy? Or what are the reasons? Can we believe that these bases are to fight terrorism, or what? It is really what is never recognized.
These bases to my sincere belief are directed against Russia, against Eurasia. And they have nothing to do with democracy, with struggle against organized international crime, with struggling against cyber dangers or anything else. We should be extremely naive to believe that these anti-ballistic systems in Poland, in Romania and elsewhere, in Spain, in Germany, that they are to relieve Europe of the dangers from Iran or from North Korea and so on and so forth.
Robles: Those are all lies. It is just part of the empire, it is part of their military force in order to increase and continue and expand their empire, and surround Russia of course, which they’ve continued to see as a threat even since the Cold War finished. NATO is the foreign military wing of their empire, they are trying to do and they are actually doing what Nazi Germany did: they are taking over the entire world through NATO.
Jovanović: I would only recall that this is new edition of a Drang nach Osten, and it really deserves high attention and very serious approaches. How to discourage, how to stop this extremely dangerous development?
I would like to add to this consideration another element, this is element of the world economic and financial crisis which seem not to be ending in foreseeable future. And I see that this global interventionism which is propped up by United States using NATO as a tool and I see that they actually are trying to pass the burden and consequences of the world economic crisis provoked by themselves to the back bone of other countries, especially to those countries which are rich with strategic minerals, strategic energy resources and so on in order to safeguard their privileged position and their good living standards and their privileged position in world economic relations. They are not ready to give up.
Robles: Can I comment on what you’ve just said about the living conditions? Because people in the West, a lot of people, and this is … it is a myth ... the people themselves, they are living worse than they have since the 1960s. Things are bad for everybody. So this is only benefiting a small group of elites, I think.
Jovanović: Yes, I think you are right, because the victims of the world crisis are generally speaking poorer countries of the world, countries rich with energy and strategic mineral resources and the population of the West equally as the population all over the world. I think the hardest hit are peoples of Africa, of Asia, of Latin America and so on. And this using NATO as a tool of corporate capitalism is aimed at preserving privileged position of these corporate capital companies to preserve the monopolies and privileged position of industrial financial capital and especially military-industrial sector. And so, actually, all of us we are victims of militarization of Europe and militarization of the world relations in general.
I think that we should be aware of that military factor is dominating economy, dominating trade, dominating politics. And it is just a reason to ask a question: where we are leading to? Where does it lead to, and what is the future of such a strategy? I think we are faced with a very disturbing development and we should not allow ourselves such a luxury to become wise when it is useless, when it is late. We should be aware now, although we should have been aware much earlier.
I myself as a Minister of Foreign Affairs of Yugoslavia in 1999, when there was aggression of NATO against my country, I said: ‘Do you understand who is next?’ Today we know who were, who have been next so far. But each time, each stage has, let’s say, more ambitious objective of this military-industrial sector.
So, Serbia was a very tiny, small sanctions exhausted country, it was not perhaps so risky to attack by the strongest military alliance in the history of civilization. But later on they were going on and we know that they were attacking much bigger countries and having a plan to expand this. And I think all leads us to one conclusion: developments in the world relations, and especially in Europe, are very, very disturbing. Let us be aware about it.
Robles: Libya, Syria, Ukraine – it is basically one formula they are using. You mentioned supporting terrorists, you mentioned synthetic revolutions. What other mechanisms did you see as the Foreign Minister to bring about the destruction of Yugoslavia? And what can you say about Libya, Syria, Ukraine, the Middle East, Egypt? The list is almost too long to mention already.
Jovanović: Well, let me first of all say that NATO aggression against Yugoslavia in 1999, exactly 15 years ago, was a turning point in world relations point of starting global interventionism. NATO did empower itself, illegally of course, contrary to all the laws existing in the world relations to intervene in any spot of the globe.
Just it was necessary to proclaim that United States or NATO have national or state interests in certain part of the world and they then prepare for aggression for invasions. To do so they in most instances use so called formula of humanitarian interventions. They invoke obligation to protect as they recently reformulated this humanitarian intervention pattern.
They in Yugoslavia accused Yugoslav government of massively violating human rights of Albanian national minority in Kosovo and Metohija. There was not anything similar to that. We have, let’s say, documents including written documents of German diplomats, of Austrian; one German general said: ‘before the aggression there were no systematic, no organized violations of human rights of Albanians in Kosovo and Metohija’. Another German diplomat Dietmar Hartwig said that accusations of that sort were perceived by himself as preparation for the aggression and so on.
In Libya you recall that they said that civilians were in danger and that they needed protection, in Mali they also said that terrorists were endangering stability and civil life in general. In Syria they say sarin gas was used by the government forces while the UN observers never indicated such a thing. They said only that there were proofs of sarin having been used but they could not state who used the sarin gas, while later on it was linked to the opposition forces and to Saudi Arabia, and whomever else.
In various other places this was also formula: protect civilians, protect human rights, and when such a signal comes from Washington then the whole network of so-called NGO, financed from Washington, from Soros Foundation, from Norway, from Great Britain, from Germany – they accelerate such an accusation and they make atmosphere of transforming lie into truth. Because mass media would accept such directives, and like CNN and some other networks of global nature would be disseminating such accusation. And they would at the same time later, at a later stage that were parallel with this, they finance opposition, inside opposition of targeted country.
They finance so-called democracy, democratization apparently to counter or to remove the totalitarian regimes. Then they would arm them. Next stage they would finance armament and train them in many directions for military actions: how to write paroles and symbols like symbol of OTPOR or the other symbols that we have seen in Maidan in Ukraine, in Kiev or in Cairo or in many other places, in South America and so on and so forth. So they then would provoke a staged event which should be signal that there is no other solution than to use military force. In case of Yugoslavia that was Reka case, in Bosnia and Herzegovina that was Markale Incident, we know the places in Syrian and other countries.
And then sometimes they have apparent diplomatic efforts, but not aimed at finding a political diplomatic solution, only saving diplomatic efforts in order to show that the regimes, so-called regimes, are unbearable and that they are not cooperating and that there is no other means than military means to resolve the problem. So this is mainly the pattern: humanitarian or intervention or responsibility to protect.
Robles: Right. Can you give us your opinion on what is going on now in Ukraine? So we’ve seen everything you’ve been talking about, we’ve seen everything that a lot of analysts and experts have been talking about, we‘ve seen this artificial outside implemented color revolution, we’ve seen and we’ve heard US officials having conversations about who is going to be in power. It is, just everything is out in the open now. But do you see something like a terrorist act or some big act going to happen soon in Ukraine? That would be the next step, I think.
Jovanović: Of course, I presume that Russian analysts and journalists and editors, like yourself, would be much better to interpret the events in Ukraine because it is not only geographically closer to you, but from any point of view, but I can imagine that most thinking people in Europe and the world would have their own assessments of events in Ukraine. As far as I’m concerned I think it is a repetition of the colored revolutions, so-called colored revolutions, and some of the elements of the pattern that I have previously elaborating are being clearly seen in developments in Ukraine.
But perhaps I would like first of all to say that it is part of the western strategy of expansion toward East. It is indeed to my profound belief the part of strategy to reach Russian borders and, well, they are abusing social, economic and other problems which partly resulted from their strategies and their policies of crediting or not crediting, policies implemented through IMF and World Bank, through European banks and so on. Sometimes I believe that they make people hungry in order to finish their strategy.

"disinformazione".
